Fatal Haywood County incident death of JaMarion Russell – Obituary

JaMarion Russell, a 19-year-old man, was found dead in a water-filled ditch after fleeing from a deputy in Haywood County, Tennessee.

According to Sheriff Billy Garrett Jr., the incident began on March 3 when a deputy attempted to pull over a 2016 Dodge Charger on Briarcreek Road near Highway 19 West. Instead of stopping, Russell sped away. The deputy pursued briefly but ended the chase when it became clear Russell would not stop.

Shortly afterward, the deputy came upon the vehicle, which had crashed into a tree in a large ditch. Russell exited the wrecked car and ran away on foot, evading the officer once more. A search for him ensued, with both the deputy and Russell’s mother participating.

Several hours later, Russell’s family members discovered his body submerged in a ditch. Authorities have sent his body for an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation.
