Fatal Kansas City police shooting death of Andrew Evans Jr. – Obituary

A Kansas City police officer fatally shot 57-year-old Andrew Evans Jr. on Thursday night after authorities say he approached officers with a knife.

The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. in the 7000 block of North Robinhood Lane as officers attempted to arrest Evans in connection with a domestic assault. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the victim of the alleged assault had already left the home and met with officers at a different location before being taken to a hospital for evaluation.

When officers arrived at the residence to take Evans into custody, he allegedly emerged from the home armed with a large knife and advanced toward them. One officer fired, striking Evans, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police officer sustained minor injuries during the encounter and was treated at the scene.

Kansas City police continue to investigate the domestic violence allegations, while the Missouri State Highway Patrol is handling the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

This marks the 24th homicide in Kansas City so far this year, surpassing the number of killings recorded at this time last year.
