Tom Yucuis dies in fatal West Dundee pedestrian accident

Fatal West Dundee pedestrian accident death of Tom Yucuis – Obituary

Tom Yucuis, a 69-year-old East Dundee resident and owner of the popular Butcher on the Block in Lake in the Hills, was tragically struck and killed by multiple vehicles on Monday, February 24, 2025, just before 6 a.m. The incident occurred near the intersection of Route 31 and Miller Road.

 

Yucuis, who had operated his butcher shop since 2000, was walking in the southbound lanes of Route 31 when three vehicles struck him while he was dressed in dark clothing. The drivers of all three vehicles stopped to provide assistance and call emergency services. Yucuis was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the drivers were injured, and no citations were issued.

 

Route 31 was closed for several hours during the investigation, which is ongoing. Yucuis’ business, Butcher on the Block, was recently recognized with an award for excellence in the hospitality industry. Many in the community have expressed their condolences, with local businesses remembering him as a beloved figure and a “local legend.”
