Fatal Merced County big rig collision death of Miguel Angel Navarrete – Obituary
Miguel Angel Navarrete, a 27-year-old resident of Coalinga, was tragically killed in a collision with a big rig in Merced County on January 16.
The accident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, near Taglio Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, Navarrete was driving a 2011 BMW in the number one northbound lane behind a 2022 International truck towing a trailer.
As the big rig slowed down due to traffic ahead, the BMW failed to reduce speed and collided with the back of the trailer. The impact caused the BMW to become lodged beneath the trailer, resulting in significant front-end damage. Navarrete was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, and it is currently unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
