Body of missing Greenbrier County man found in Nicholas County; death ruled homicide
GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – On Saturday, May 6, 2025, at approximately 10 a.m., West Virginia State Police responded to a wooded, rough terrain area in Nicholas County following a tip about a possible body.
The location was just across the border from Greenbrier County.
Sergeant S. Murphy and Trooper H. Ware began searching the area and soon discovered what appeared to be human remains.
They immediately secured the scene and contacted the West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Team, the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Team, and the lead investigators on the case.
The body was recovered and transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston, where it was confirmed to be that of Audie Carl “AJ” Sloan Jr., who had been reported missing from the Crichton area of Greenbrier County on November 26, 2024.
The medical examiner has ruled Mr. Sloan’s death a homicide.
The case remains under active investigation, with Captain K. Sawyers of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department and Corporal J. Gilkerson of the West Virginia State Police serving as lead investigators.
