Woman charged after false burglary report on ex-boyfriend

WOOD COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Wood County woman was arrested May 12 after falsely reporting a burglary in progress at her home, prompting an emergency response by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the call after the woman claimed a man had broken into her residence and was still inside, which she said she was monitoring through her phone.

Upon arrival, deputies found no signs of forced entry and discovered all doors were locked.

Central Dispatch instructed the complainant to return to the residence to let deputies inside.

Once on scene, she identified the alleged intruder as her ex-boyfriend, who she admitted had lived there as recently as the previous night.

She told deputies she had been trying to get him to leave, but he refused.

The woman, identified as Kimberly Rose Berden, 33, was arrested and charged with false reporting of an emergency incident.

She is currently out on bond.

The sheriff’s office noted that the false report prompted an emergency response that could have endangered the man inside, had deputies forcibly entered the home under the belief he was an unknown intruder.
