Manteca In-N-Out Shooting: Manteca Officers Open Fire After Suspect Rams Patrol Cars at In-N-Out

Manteca In-N-Out Shooting – A fatal police shooting in Manteca, California, on Wednesday evening, April 30, 2025, has left the community in shock and prompted multiple investigations.

The incident occurred in the parking lot of an In-N-Out restaurant on Yosemite Avenue, where 69-year-old Charles McGonegal II was fatally shot by police after a violent confrontation.

The altercation began around 5 p.m., when In-N-Out employees refused service to McGonegal in the drive-thru after noticing an open beer can in his vehicle. Witnesses reported that McGonegal became agitated and aggressive, striking vehicles in the parking lot and drawing attention from restaurant staff and bystanders.

One witness, Diego Usme, who was dining at a nearby restaurant, recalled seeing the situation escalate. “He got aggressive and started hitting the cars,” Usme said in Spanish.

A witness quickly called Manteca police, and when the first responding officer arrived, McGonegal allegedly rammed the officer’s patrol car. More officers were dispatched, and authorities swiftly evacuated the restaurant, which was full of patrons.

Despite 20 minutes of attempted de-escalation, McGonegal rammed two additional patrol cars, prompting officers to open fire. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed McGonegal’s identity. The Manteca Police Department, along with the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office and the California Department of Justice Crime Lab, is conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting.

Five officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, following standard protocol. The incident has raised questions about police use of force, with some witnesses expressing concerns over the number of rounds fired.

Authorities are urging anyone with video footage or information related to the case to come forward.
