Authorities in Whitewater, Wisconsin, have identified 23-year-old Chad Richards as the suspect in the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Kara Welsh, a standout gymnast at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The incident occurred late Friday night at an off-campus apartment.
Police responded to the scene and found Welsh suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. It was later determined that Welsh and Richards had gotten into an argument before the shooting took place.
Richards, who reportedly knew Welsh, has been arrested and charged with first-degree intentional homicide, endangering safety by the use of a dangerous weapon, and disorderly conduct while armed. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
