Fatal Clear Creek County police shooting death of Christine Lewis – Obituary
Christine Lewis, 36, was fatally shot by three Clear Creek County Sheriff’s deputies after a confrontation near Empire Junction. She was transported to a Denver-area hospital with life-threatening injuries but did not survive.
The incident began when Empire police attempted to arrest Lewis, who had a felony warrant from Oklahoma for illegal firearm possession. Law enforcement initially found her inside a parked vehicle in an empty lot. When officers ordered her to exit, she instead drove away, leading them to County Road 306, where she crashed into a wooded area near Clear Creek.
Authorities reported that Lewis was armed and refused to comply with commands. Officers attempted to use non-lethal measures, but when she eventually exited her vehicle, she allegedly pointed her firearm at deputies. The standoff continued as she moved onto a bridge, still armed.
According to officials, Lewis then raised her weapon toward deputies, prompting three of them to fire. She was struck and later died at the hospital. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is handling the case, and the deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
