Fatal Clinton shooting death of Rufford Jones – Obituary
Rufford Jones, a 69-year-old man, was tragically killed in a shooting that occurred Tuesday night in Clinton.
The incident took place at around 11:15 p.m. on Florence Street. When officers arrived, they discovered Jones lying in the roadway with gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to Prisma Health Laurens County Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police arrested 34-year-old Vincent Marc Viner at the scene. Viner has been charged with murder and is currently held at Johnson Detention Center, awaiting a bond hearing.
Investigators, including assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, believe the shooting was an isolated incident with no ongoing danger to the community.
