Fatal Philadelphia shooting death of Anthony Jerome Sharpe Jr. – Obituary

Anthony Jerome Sharpe Jr., an 18-year-old from Smyrna, Delaware, was fatally shot late Monday night at a playground in Southwest Philadelphia.

 

The shooting took place just before 9 p.m. at the Russell DeRitis Playground on the 5600 block of Grays Avenue. Surveillance footage shows Sharpe sitting near a play area when an unidentified suspect approached and fired at least nine rounds.

 

Sharpe sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head, face, back, and torso. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

 

The shooter, dressed in dark clothing, fled the scene immediately after the attack. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage to determine a possible motive.

 

Kevin Rosa, a representative of the Philadelphia School District’s Youth Violence Reduction Initiative, expressed concern over the increasing violence affecting young people, emphasizing the need for safer spaces for the community.
