Fatal Northridge police shooting death of Seijah Rivera – Obituary

Seijah Rivera, 21, was shot and killed by California Highway Patrol officers early Wednesday following a police chase that began in Northridge and ended in Winnetka, where he lived.

The incident started around 2:30 a.m. when officers attempted to pull over Rivera, who was driving a work van in the 7200 block of Sunnybrae Avenue. Instead of stopping, he led police on a pursuit before reaching a cul-de-sac, where he exited the vehicle holding a handgun. Officers then opened fire, fatally striking him.

Rivera’s family stated that he had been driving his father’s work van at the time of the chase. Witnesses in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots, with one recalling officers shouting commands before firing approximately 16 rounds.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the reason for the initial traffic stop, and the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
