Fatal Santa Margarita car crash death of Daniel Lopez Ortiz – Obituary

Daniel Lopez Ortiz, a 33-year-old resident of Atascadero, was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning in rural Santa Margarita.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the accident happened just before 3 a.m. on Highway 58 near Red Hill Road. Lopez Ortiz was driving a Toyota Tacoma at high speed when he lost control while navigating a curve, causing the vehicle to collide with a tree.

Emergency responders pronounced Lopez Ortiz dead at the scene. Authorities determined that alcohol contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
