1 dead, 1 injured in Longview house fire

LONGVIEW, Texas — One person is dead and another injured following a Wednesday morning house fire in Longview.

According to Longview Fire Marshal Kevin May, firefighters were dispatched to a house fire on the 100 block of Garfield Street at around 4:30 a.m. Three occupants were already outside when officials arrived, and a search and rescue operation began for two others still inside the home.

May said one person died following the fire from suspected thermal heat damage while another was transported to a local hospital after suffering extensive smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the Longview Fire Marshal said.
