Anne Rasmussen, 58, of Whiting, tragically lost her life in a wrong-way crash on Route 70 in Brick, New Jersey, early Friday morning.
Authorities from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office reported that Rasmussen was driving westbound near Lowe’s Home Improvement store around 5 a.m. when a Toyota Rav 4, traveling east in the westbound lanes, collided head-on with her Volkswagen Beetle.
The driver of the Toyota, 53-year-old Jose Romero Quinteros of Howell, was critically injured and had to be extricated from his vehicle. He has been charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
Rasmussen, who was on her way home from work as an ER nurse, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her daughter, Kelly Kracsun, shared in a GoFundMe post that Rasmussen was dedicated to helping others and was deeply loved by her family. She leaves behind her husband, three children, two brothers, her mother, and three grandchildren, with another on the way.
The family expressed their immense grief, noting that their lives will never be the same. Funeral arrangements are pending, and contributions to the GoFundMe campaign in Rasmussen’s memory are welcome.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact local authorities.
