It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Vincent, a beloved resident of Grand Rapids, Michigan. John, 67, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024, surrounded by his family. His sudden departure has left a tremendous void in the lives of his loved ones, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. John’s legacy of kindness, wisdom, and dedication to his family and community will live on for generations to come.

Born on January 22, 1957, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, John was the son of Robert and Mary Vincent. He grew up in the heart of the city, and from an early age, he was known for his sense of humor, determination, and unshakable moral compass. John’s childhood was filled with the love of his family, and he quickly became known as a loyal friend and dependable figure to all who knew him.

John attended Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School, where he excelled academically and athletically. He was a standout on the school’s basketball team and developed lifelong friendships with classmates who admired his competitive spirit and genuine nature. It was during these formative years that John developed a love for the game of basketball, which would remain a passion throughout his life. His athleticism and team spirit became a hallmark of his character, and he carried those lessons of hard work, dedication, and perseverance into every aspect of his life.

After graduating high school in 1975, John went on to study at Western Michigan University, where he earned a degree in business administration. During his time at Western Michigan, John was not only an excellent student but also an active member of several campus organizations. John’s time at college solidified his love for Grand Rapids, and after graduation, he returned home to begin his career and make a lasting impact on the community.

John is survived by his wife, Karen; their children, Michael (and his wife Rachel), Emily, and Sarah; his two granddaughters, Ava and Lily; his siblings, Jim Vincent (and his wife Margaret) and Lisa Turner; and many extended family members and friends who held him dear. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Vincent, and his sister, Janet Adams.

A celebration of John’s life will take place on December 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church in Grand Rapids. The funeral service will be followed by a reception at the church hall, where friends, family, and community members are invited to gather and share memories of John. Visitation will be held on December 18, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Grand Rapids Youth Sports Foundation or the St. Alphonsus Outreach Program in John’s memory, two causes that were close to his heart.

John Vincent’s passing marks the end of a life well-lived, but his legacy of love, compassion, and service will never be forgotten. He touched countless lives, and his spirit will live on in the memories of those who knew him. Rest in peace, John. You will always be loved and missed.
